About CIRM Funding

Learn more about CIRM’s scientific funding process

All of CIRM’s research funds are dispersed through a directed Request for Application (RFA) process. Members of CIRM’s Science Office write specific RFAs designed to fill gaps in advancing stem cell science and regenerative medicine. Working with specialist reviewers as needed, the Scientific and Medical Research Funding Working Group (Grants Working Group) group gives each application a score and patient advocates assist with determining programmatic importance of each grant. All final funding decisions are made by the CIRM governing board, the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee.
