CIRM November Digest

Strategic Review Report Now Available

On October 13-15, a group of eight distinguished scientists, ethicists and patient advocates reviewed CIRM’s performance toward novel stem cell therapies as measured against the goals set forth in the agency’s 2006 Strategic Plan and the 2009 Strategic Plan Update. The report produced by the outside panel is now available for the public to review.

New CIRM Spotlight on Disease Video

Videos of CIRM's "Spotlight on Disease Team Awards: Sub-Cortical Stroke" are now posted. The videos feature Gary Steinberg, principle investigator for Stanford's Stroke Disease Team and K. Michael Cooper, a patient advocate for stroke victims.

SCNT Workshop Report

CIRM and the Medical Research Council of the United Kingdom held a joint meeting in June to examine the topic of human somatic cell nuclear transfer (hSCNT) and its role in stem cell research. The workshop report is now available.

Research Blog: Stem Cell-Based Trial Begins

On November 22nd, the FDA gave the go-ahead for the second human embryonic stem cell-based clinical trial. The treatment, developed by Advanced Cell Technology, is for a genetic form of blindness called Stargardt’s Macular Degeneration. This milestone was summarized in CIRM's Research Blog.
