Courts Dismiss Lawsuit that Threatened Stem Cell Research Funding
On July 28th the District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed a lawsuit that threatened to halt the ability of federal agencies to fund human embryonic stem cell research.

Training Stem Cell Science's Next Generation
At the 2011 CIRM Bridges Trainee Meeting, 160 students from the 16 Bridges programs presented posters that describe the research results from their internships and learned about career opportunities in stem cell science. CIRM produced a two minute video which captures the students' excitement about their internships and their future stem cell science endeavors. The meeting was held on July 7th and 8th in Burlingame, California.
Bridges Trainee Meeting Keynote: Geron's Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Trial
Dr. Jane Lebkowski, executive vice president and chief scientific officer at Geron Corporation, gave the keynote address for the 2011 CIRM Bridges Trainee Meeting. Last year, Geron began the first clinical trial in the world using human embryonic stem cells. CIRM recently approved a $25 million loan to Geron to assist in this trial. The embryonic stem cells used in the trial are being tested as a potential therapy for spinal cord injury. Lebkowski reviewed the work leading up to the trial and gave the latest update on its progress.
