Statement Regarding US District Court Ruling Freezing NIH Funding of Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The leadership of CIRM, the state stem cell agency, deplores the decision of U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth to freeze federal funding of all human embryonic stem cell (hESC) research. This decision will disrupt the advances that are happening across the country to bring hESC-based therapies to patients in need.

Stem cell agency commits $243 million, expands team approach to developing new therapies
Palo Alto, Calif – The Governing Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency created by proposition 71, today approved the concept for up to $243 million round of funding to move stem cell-based therapies to clinical trial.

CIRM allocates $25 million to overcome immune rejection of stem cell transplantation therapies
San Diego, Calif., June 22, 2010 – The Governing Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency created by proposition 71, today approved $25 million to fund 19 projects intended to overcome immune rejection of transplanted stem cells.

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and California’s State Stem Cell Agency Sign Declaration Of Cooperation to Advance Stem Cell Research toward Cures
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 17, 2010 – Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and the Chair of the Governing Board of the California state stem cell agency, Robert Klein, signed a Declaration of Cooperation that aims to create a framework for joint funding between researchers in the two states and to accelerate the pace of development of cellular therapies to reach patients. The signing took place at the annual meeting of the International Society for Stem Cell Research at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

New York Stem Cell Foundation and California’s State Stem Cell Agency Sign Agreement for Collaboration To Advance Stem Cell Research toward Cures
The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), the state’s stem cell agency, and the New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) have signed an agreement that should foster collaboration between researchers funded by the two organizations and accelerate the pace of advancement in the field of regenerative medicine.

CIRM Awards $28 Million to Answer Fundamental Questions in Stem Cell Biology
Los Angeles, Calif., April 29, 2010 – At a meeting at the City of Hope, the governing board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency created by Proposition 71, approved funding $28 million to support 16 Basic Biology II Awards that answer fundamental questions about stem cell biology and one Leadership Award.

CIRM Clarifies Position on Use of NIH-Approved human embryonic stem cell lines
San Francisco, Calif., March 29 – The Governing Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency created by Proposition 71, clarified that when it adopted the Medical and Ethical Standards in August 2006, the intent was that all NIH-approved human embryonic stem cell lines at that time should be available, and remain available, to CIRM-funded researchers.

San Francisco, Calif., February 25 – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency, has launched an on-line stem cell education portal. The extensive set of course materials and activity resources will help high school and other educators prepare the youth of California to join the fast-growing biotech economy and help that sector find the workers its leaders say are already in short supply.

$40 Million For Stem Cell Tools to Drive Biotech Economy, Accelerate New Therapies
San Francisco, Calif. – The Governing Board of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency created by Proposition 71, today authorized $40 million to fund up to 20 Tools and Technologies II Awards for new stem cell therapeutic tools. These awards are expected to drive significant new economic activity, generating additional tax revenues and jobs in California’s fast growing biotechnology sector.

All 12 CIRM Major Facility Projects Moving Forward, Creating Jobs Today And Hope for Cures Tomorrow
San Francisco, Calif., January 15 – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine review panel that in April 2008 recommended providing over $270 million to construct 12 major stem cell research facilities in California met today to review the status of these projects and found that all were moving forward, with 11 having construction well underway.
