Spotlight on Basic Research: Irv Weissman
Irv Weissman, Ph.D., spoke at the “Spotlight on Basic Research,” an educational event presented at the CIRM Governing Board meeting on August 20, 2009. Weissman has a CIRM Comprehensive grant to identify cell surface markers on human embryonic stem cells that distinguish differentiated cells from potentially tumorigenic cells. He also has a CIRM Disease Team grant to develop therapeutic antibodies for targeting human acute myeloid leukemia stem cells. Here’s a list of all of Weissman’s CIRM awards.
Weissman was introduced by Sam Hawgood, who is dean of the UCSF school of medicine and a member of the CIRM governing board.
The CIRM-hosted event was presented at the UCSF Mission Bay campus.
