Media Advisory Intellectual Property Task Force to Meet for First Time In Sacramento

EMERYVILLE, CA – On Tuesday (10/25/05), the Intellectual Property Task Force (“IP Task Force”), a subcommittee of the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (ICOC), will meet for the first time in Sacramento to hear the recommendations of the California Council on Science and Technology.

WHO: ICOC Vice Chairman, Edward Penhoet, will chair the IP Task Force. Additional board members are Susan Bryant, Michael Goldberg, Sherry Lansing, Ted Love, Philip Pizzo, Francisco Prieto, John Reed, Jeff Sheehy, Oswald Steward and Janet Wright

WHAT: The IP Task Force will hear a presentation from CCST leadership on their interim report to the California Legislature, “Policy Framework for Intellectual Property Derived from Stem Cell Research in California.” They will also hear a report on the translation of technology in the creation of medical therapies from Fred Dorey of Cooley Godward.

WHY: On July 12, 2005, the ICOC established the subcommittee to define intellectual property policies for the CIRM. The task force will address issues of ownership and transfer of technology for the CIRM.
