		Public Summary:
The adaptive immune system archives an evolving record of its antigen exposures throughout life, employing B and T cells whose receptors (BCRs and TCRs) undergo random gene rearrangements, and whose clones expand and persist, generating a vast repertoire that dynamically responds to infections, vaccinations, and autoimmunity. Until recently, this record was inaccessible to clinicians. As immune history shapes both current and future responses, harnessing this immune “fingerprint” as a biomarker could enable detection of infections and disease states where no definitive diagnostic test exists.
