The CIRM Bridges Science Master’s Program aims to continue preparing talented and motivated students for successful careers in the biomedical workforce to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of stem cell, gene therapy and related technologies for improving human health. The program focuses on preparing competent science graduates from diverse and disadvantaged groups to promote advances in stem cell, regenerative medicine and emerging STEM fields. Our Year 1 cohort of 7 trainees were admitted to a two-year MS-Biomedical Science Master’s program designed to prepare competent and committed professionals for both academia and industry. The program provides course work in STEM, business, and research practices, and is tailored to students interested in pursuing leadership positions in the biotechnology sector or advanced academic training programs. The Year 1 Bridges trainees have participated in course work and internship training activities that prepare them for career paths of their individualized professional interest. All trainees are on track to complete a master’s degree in May-June 2023 and pursue a professional career in the biotechnology sector or advanced academic training programs. Two trainees are invited for interviews to highly competitive PhD programs and several trainees are co-authors of peer-reviewed publications.
