Statement by Zach W. Hall, Ph.D., CIRM President Regarding the Progress of Standards Working Group’s Meeting in Los Angeles

The CIRM continues to be actively engaged in formulating ethical and medical standards for the research we fund.

The Standards Working Group—composed of nationally prominent ethicists and scientists as well as patient advocates from our oversight board—has met publicly for the third time today after conducting additional hearings in recent months to gather the public’s opinions. The Standards Working Group is currently drafting Final CIRM Regulations, having recommended interim regulations for the consideration of the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee at its November 2nd meeting.

Today’s meeting encompassed issues concerning diversity, ESCRO membership, and stem cell banking requirements. The steadfast dedication of the Standard’s Working Group only further demonstrates CIRM’s commitment to developing the highest ethical standards for stem cell research for the people of California.
