CIRM Awards $1.8 Million to Build Stem Cell Teams, Accelerate Therapies
On August 25th, the CIRM Governing Board approved $1.8 million to support 19 researchers in their efforts to assemble competitive teams to develop applications for the Disease Team Therapy Development Awards. These planning awards are first in a two-step process to receive the full research awards, which will be worth up to $20 million each. The planning grants went to 10 institutions with teams working toward therapies for Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, osteoporosis, heart failure, Huntington’s disease and other currently incurable conditions.

New Video: 21st Century Stem Cell Scientists
This summer, CIRM funded the Creativity Awards, an innovative program that encourages the most creative high school students to spend time working in a stem cell lab. The CIRM Creativity Awards recipients met in Oakland on August 2, 2011 to share results of their internship programs. CIRM posted a short video that captures these sharp students' enthusiasm for stem cell science.

Stem Cell Meeting on the Mesa: Investor and Partnering Forum
CIRM is organizing an Investor and Partnering Forum in conjunction with the Stem Cell Meeting on the Mesa to be held at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Sanford Consortium in La Jolla on November 30th – December 1st, 2011. The Forum will provide the opportunity for hundreds of business, academic research and investor participants to connect for one-on-one meetings and strategic partnering.
