CIRM Provides $40 Million to Support Future Stem Cell Scientists
San Diego, Calif., June 18, 2009 – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the state stem cell agency, renewed funding for training programs at 15 institutions, providing an ongoing source of support for programs that are considered vital for encouraging future stem cell scientists.

CIRM Awards $67 Million to Move Basic Research Toward the Clinic
Los Angeles, Calif., April 29, 2009 – The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), the state stem cell agency, will begin funding work that translates basic research into clinical cures. At a meeting of the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee, the 29-member Governing Board approved $67.7 million to fund 15 grants focused on moving basic research toward patients.

Draft NIH Embryonic Stem Cell Regulations Consistent with CIRM Standards: CIRM Funding Still Needed for Broad Array of Research Areas
San Francisco, Calif., April 17, 2009 – The National Institutes of Health announced draft guidelines for research using human embryonic stem cells that are largely consistent with regulations developed by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the National Academies of Science and other national and international organizations.

CIRM Announces Winners of the 2008 Image Contest
San Francisco, Calif., February 18, 2009 – The twelve winning images from the first California Institute for Regenerative Medicine stem cell photo contest range from a whirling galaxy of developing nerve cells to a moonscape of retinal pigment epithelial cells, both derived from human embryonic stem cells.
