Year 1

Small molecules and proteins were identified that efficiently regulate the self-renewal or directed differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Such molecules may facilitate the application of ESCs to the treatment of degenerative diseases by providing increased numbers of ESCs under chemically defined conditions, or by efficiently directing the differentiation of ESCs (with other factors) to other cell fates.
