RFA 07-04: CIRM Disease Team Planning Awards
The CIRM Disease Team Planning Award, the subject of this RFA (07-04), will support up to six months of planning and proposal development for the Disease Team Research Awards. Disease Team Research Awards will be the subject of a subsequent RFA.
The purpose of the CIRM Disease Team Initiative is to explore a new method of integrating and organizing the highest quality basic, translational and clinical stem cell research with the specific aim of producing a therapy or diagnostic for a particular disease or serious injury. This approach allows the use of innovative research models such as requiring active team management and emphasizing defined milestones to better support and to accelerate research that is poised for the development of stem cell-based treatments. The Disease Team Initiative has three parts: a Workshop (held July, 2007), this Planning Award, and the Disease Team Research Award (which will be the subject of a subsequent RFA).

You will need a fully functional copy of Adobe Acrobat version 7 or 8 (Standard or Professional) to complete, print, and save the Application Information Form, part A of the application. We recommend using Adobe Acrobat version 8.1 (or the latest version). Using Adobe Acrobat Reader will not permit you to save information that is entered in the form.
Applications will only be accepted from PIs that: 1) have been officially nominated on a Candidate Nomination Form (CNF) by their home institution; and 2) have submitted a Letter of Intent (LOI) that was accepted by CIRM. The signed original CNF and electronic Letter of Intent must be received by CIRM no later than 5:00pm PST on December 20, 2007. No exceptions will be made.
Applicant institutions must complete a Candidate Nomination Form (CNF) to nominate candidate(s) for a Disease Team Planning Award. CIRM will accept only one CNF from each institution; this form must be signed by an institutional official authorized to nominate candidates on behalf of the entire institution. The signed original CNF must be submitted to CIRM as specified in Section VI A of RFA 07-04. The form for the CNF can be accessed through the following links:

All PIs planning to apply for CIRM Disease Team Planning Award must notify CIRM in a Letter of Intent (LOI). Letters of Intent must be submitted electronically to PlanningAward_loi@cirm.ca.gov as specified in Section VI B of RFA 07-04. The form for the LOI can be accessed through the link below:

Applications must be received by CIRM no later than 5:00 pm PST on January 31, 2008. No exceptions will be made. Application instructions are outlined in Section VI C and Section VII in RFA 07-04.
